Tuesday: stayed up as late as usual last night, and since I didn't have to work until the afternoon, I slept in quite a bit. I got up around 11 to retrieve a hoagie from Newbold Cafe, which I planned to have for lunch today and tomorrow. I was a little relieved to discover that it's just as miserably hot outside as it has been inside, so at least I'm not making things worse for myself by not shutting off the dysfunctional A/C and opening the windows. My work shift went well, and afterwards I joined my FFXIV free company for a couple of hours of following treasure maps. Unfortunately, I did not get around to cleaning up the litter and taking out the trash, so I have to do that now, as tomorrow morning I've got the A/C guy coming over followed immediately by my work shift.

Sunday: since the cats weren't doing much to help get me out of bed in the morning, Julie woke me up, and we made our shopping run. First stop of the day was at Best Buy for canned air to keep my computers clear of the cat fur and other detritus that circulates in the office at all times. I wanted to get some kind of keyboard mat as well, since the little rubber feet on my hardware lost all their adhesiveness, but I wasn't seeing anything that mike work. We decided to try Wendy's for lunch, but just like last time, it was an enormous wait, the machines were out of drinks and ice, their employees were understaffed and overworked, and all the customers grumbled about all of these problems. It really didn't help that a pair of meals that would've cost like $16 in Wichita were closer to $28 out here. One angry guy practically walked behind the counter to get a refill. "I come here all the time, and it's always like this," he told the woman in front of us. Kinda makes you wonder why he keeps coming back.

After that, the grocery trip was simple enough, and I got the supplies to make taco soup for dinner. We got home, unloaded our groceries, and then a lot of sleeping in the living room ensued. We were pretty exhausted. I got a late start on dinner, and we watched more Futurama. I played more Hearthstone and read through more of Ryan Veeder's annotated source code PDFs. Then I realized I still hadn't updated my site for Saturday, ran into the office to post these updates, and now I'll probably stay up way too late again for some other reason. More YouTube, maybe?

Julie has a long LiveJournal update today:

"Jason (@jasonlove) and I have been battling head colds for the past few days. Despite the handicap I've worked and we both went sailing with him family at Cheney Reservoir on Sunday. It's not a Great Lake by any means but considering this is Kansas it was pretty damn nice. But oh man, did my butt hurt the few days after. Hard bottomed boat + zero cushioned tushy = OUCH.

"Everywhere I look I see Ozarka water touting it's Eco-Shape Bottle. It uses less plastic and thus is more environmentally friendly. You know what would be environmentally friendly? How about everyone stops drinking bottled water and invests in a faucet mount or Brita pitcher filter and buys a reusable water bottle like a Nalgene? That would really impact the environment. No matter how much less plastic your bottles contain they will still eventually be thrown away and sit for however long in a landfill. Nice try though.

"I got a new digital camera! I came to work today via UPS and I went in on my day off to pick it up. It's another Nikon of course. My old one met a tragic fate involving a day at the zoo, my purse and an apparently open bottle of Gatorade. It hadn't been running as well as it had been originally for a while now (granted it was 4 years old) so I was planning on setting it out to pasture anyway. And let's just say I have the best boyfriend ever. :)

"Bessie is at the doctor because her tail light/turn signal on the drivers side keeps going out and it probably doesn't help that there is water filling both of the cavities for the lights on her rear. The mechanic said something this morning about having to replace something and that they could have it done today. However it's already noon and I haven't heard anything.

"Angie's cat Max keeps gnawing on me as he lays in my lap and I hate when he does this.

"Jason and I are going to Branson this weekend with some of his friends to hit up Silver Dollar City. I have never been to Branson but apparently everyone in Kansas has to go to Branson at least once. I bet this will be fun regardless. I hope my car is done by then because the drive out there will be much more comfortable in Bessie.

"And let's just say it really pisses me off that there are zero consequences for people not showing up for shifts or coming in late constantly. How is it good for morale when the other coworkers can dick around the store and not feel any kind of wrath? What is the incentive for the rest of us to show up on time, work hard and put in effort? NONE."

As of 7:55 PM Central, Sedgwick County is under a tornado alert, and it seemed to be heading straight for our area. My livejournal update reported that I took pictures, though it's doubtful whether any are still online 21 years later.
