Sunday: couldn't get out of bed very early, which meant my plan to start our morning of pulling weeds before it got too hot out was doomed from the start. Julie wanted to try to get some of the old piles of leaves into the trash as well. Didn't wear any hat this time, so I crouched in the shade as much as I could.
Once we'd finished with the weeds and showered, I had one of my salads for lunch, after which I announced my intention to run to the store for a belt. I went to the thrift store first, where I found a likely belt, but it was scuffed enough to feel like I should check for a better alternative at a more traditional retailer. On my way out, I saw one of those transparent plastic toys where there's a physics playground of paths and slides and loops that you're supposed to navigate with a marble; this one had three sections that rotate, almost like a Rubik's cube. It was only a few bucks, so I bought it and dropped it in the car. At the other store, I couldn't find a belt, but I did get some screen wipes and a package of socks. (I didn't look closely enough at the package; it's supposed to have five pairs, but I didn't notice that one pair had been ripped out of the middle before I got to it.) I headed back to the thrift shop for that belt I'd found, but I ended up going with another one that was in better condition, though it was a bit more expensive. On my way back home, I put the plastic toy I'd bought into the little free library over on Morris for somebody to find.
Having now purchased a belt, I immediately rediscovered the belt I'd bought in Wichita for Carl's wedding, which was reversible and fit better than my new purchase; I spent the rest of the afternoon debating which clothes to bring. Julie cooked up a tray of oiled vegetables, boiled some tiny potatoes, and roasted a strip of pork for dinner. She needed me to slice the meat after it cooled, as she doesn't trust herself with that kind of activity when she's high. We watched a bunch of Kill La Kill episodes while we ate. (I didn't think there were two seasons, but it kind of feels like we're approaching the halfway point of the second season.)
Spending too much time on youtube. We're both a little worried about John; we really don't want the stress of our extended departure to trigger a health crisis for him, and age is definitely slowing him down. We were even able to trim his nails without difficulty. (Isabel was the only cat that actually put up a fight. We didn't try to trim Mim's nails, though; she would unquestionably try to bite us.)
Saturday: Julie had her second baseball game of the weekend to get to, so we postponed shopping until tomorrow. I finished the chili for lunch, and I managed to do some laundry, get the litter, and vacuum the bedrooms. I also did all my dailies in Uma Musume and Hearthstone, though I didn't get around to doing the dishes until late at night. I kept watching more videos on youtube and playing gamese of Hearthstone until Julie got home, basically, at which point we decided to scrounge for dinner. I had a bowl of cereal, continued watching Kyle from Grinding Gear playing Metroid: Zero Mission, and posted this update.
Friday: I had another day struggling to adhere to my scheduled plan. I was able to pick up lunch from the halal cart by Acme, though I got roped into hearing a conservation spiel by a fundraiser guy on the corner. (I've already set up an appointment in my calendar with the service phone number to cancel the donation next Thursday.) After we ate, I had my weekly call with David, did the dishes, watched a little bit of the Star Trek: Prodigy that Julie's had on in her free time, and got cleaned up before preparing dinner. I boiled spaghetti before preparing the chicken meatballs from a recipe I'd discovered last year. It wound up being after 8:30 by the time we ate, because I can't seem to prepare these without running into unexpected problems: not having an appropriate cooking pan, or missing a step in the prep process, or timing the completion of certain steps badly. Since it was so late, I just continued watching this Phoenix Wright: Justice for All playthrough on youtube rather than trying to watch something in the living room.
IS THE COUGH STILL HERE? YES
Wednesday: couldn't do my weekly work project because my contact is out of the office, so it's just more calls, but at least I got confirmation about my schedule change happening in a few weeks: I'll be going to 9 to 6:30 Saturday to Wednesday. Losing weekends is a little unfortunate, but overall this represents an improvement over the schedule I'm working now. Still watching more FFXIV videos.

Friday: my family had rooms at The Lodge of Four Seasons at the Lake of the Ozarks. Gorgeous; we joked that, if the Great Northern from Twin Peaks was built today, this is what it might look like. Wehad dinner at Li'l Rizzo's Italian Restaurant. This may have been our first introduction to the "lake water" cocktail, a bright green drink, which would become a major favorite of ours.

Sunday: we're watching *Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp*. We're only a fourth of the way through the miniseries, but it's a lot of fun.
Saturday: Julie surprised me with a Wii U. Our Wii was making a lot of troubling noises, so I was excited to transfer our data across to the new system.

Julie's LJ update today reports that she visited the Tanganyika animal preserve on the west side of Wichita. This might have been our first visit? This was during the period in which you could enter the ring-tailed lemur island and hold dehydrated cranberries in your hands so that the lemurs would clamber over your body to eat the treats. Julie also rode a camel, and I might have gotten a photo in which I'm being harassed by lorikeets, if this is the visit I'm thinking of? Oh, and Julie's friends got her a CD player/burner for her birthday. She's enjoying the rental car, but it's pretty hot out right now.
