2024

Friday: too tired to do anything but nap until lunchtime, at which point I picked up Taco Bell. Julie put in a big order so we could have the quesadillas and burritos before the shows this weekend. Once I finished eating, I grabbed shopping bags and went to run my errands. First stop was the Haircuttery, though I hadn't bothered to comb my hair before I went, so the lady picked a weird spot for my part, and I couldn't see without my glasses, so I didn't correct her.

I grabbed my groceries at the store, opting for a week of double salads and doing a 12-pack of Ice Sparkling Water for my beverages. I got the ingredients for chili, but I won't be making dinner until Sunday, I think. I drove back home, though the roads were blocked in a lot of places, and Broad is in the process of being resurfaced. At home, I had enough time to run my laundry and do the dishes. Julie confirmed that she's coming down with a cold, but she refused to let that get in the way of our concert plans.

When the time came, we went to the corner store and picked up bottles of water before taking the subway up to the Mann Loop pickup spot. We had no danger of missing the bus this time around, and once we arrived, we ate our cold quesadillas. Julie asked where we should set up our picnic blanket on the lawn, and after debating our options, we elected to set ourselves on an incline at the base of the slope. This would position us well for our plan to start leaving during the encore, but the downside was that you had to either lock your knees and lie with your feet pressed on the curb, or you had to sit upright to stop yourself from sliding into the walkway. Despite these issues, I was able to nap until the concert started.

Performers this evening included Willow Avalon, Bakar, Young the Giant, and Cage the Elephant. We were too far from the centerline and too low relative to the amphitheater seating to be able to see the stage at most angles, but none of these bands had visuals that approached the level of what Glass Animals was doing last month. I was having a lot more fun just watching the people dancing and singing in the walkways in front of us, though one guy kind of fell on top of us in his scramble down the hill. I think I enjoyed Young the Giant's performance a little better last time they were here, but Cage the Elephant surprised me with the number of tracks I recognized and enjoyed.

The trip home was a struggle. Like always, the return bus was packed full of people, but this time around, we had a loud, belligerent drunk. We did eventually get moving, and after another subway ride and short walk home, we were in for the night.

2023

Wednesday: with Julie at work again, I had a quiet workday at home. Started my weekly project early, though I couldn't finish before closing time. Julie had a hair appointment after her workday ended, and I just drowsed on the floor until she got back. Upon her return, we wrapped up the first gardening event of the season in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, took out the trash and recyclables, had the leftover onion ziti while continuing our TV program, and played a couple of games of Civ VI. These were not successful games. I didn't feel much investment in any strategy, so I was just picking my production and research goals on a whim. It was still plenty fun to just hang out in our living room and enjoy the sounds of the city. Once she got tired and went to bed, I found an Outer Wilds LP to replace the Disco Elysium streams I'd been watching. I spent some more time playing with the cats, but once they started swatting at each other, I turned the lights out and came in here to post this update. Gonna check into FFXIV for a couple of roulettes before bed.
