2026

Monday: started the new month with more outline work, but I might need to resign myself to my outline being "good enough" and just get a draft going. Can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. I didn't remember that I'd planned to call the doctor today, and when I tried in the afternoon, I didn't get through. Might need to try my benefits line through work instead.

The workday went better than I could have hoped. My supervisor is back in the office after maternity leave, I took care of all my remaining groups including the Pending DSB list, and even though it was a Monday, I only took two phone calls. Did my usual shower on the first break, but at lunch, I proceeded with my plan to start using the little plates as a way to enforce portion control. I also read more of the Perry Mason novel. On my second break, I was starting to feel tired, so I invited John to follow me to the master bedroom for a 15-minute nap. I ended my workday trying to find additional unfinished work in my service request backlog, notes, emails, and other out-of-the-way places to ensure I was fully caught up.

After my shift, I woke Julie up so we could get changed for trivia. We met a local cat on the walk over; they were rolling on the front step of the building that has all the inflatable decorations for every holiday, which prompted a discussion of all the problems of having outdoor cats. It's not an uncommon topic for us. Julie might love meeting cats in windows, but seeing them outside causes us both concern.

At the bar, we learned that this was to be Jimmie's last night before his months-long vacation in Ireland. We were seated at the end of the middle table in the garage room, so we didn't have to deal with any groups Julie would be irritated by, but the DJ's speaker was positioned such that it was sometimes hard to hear. Julie ordered the sausage bites again, while I had a Stogie burger. (No drink, which hadn't been my intention, but whatever.) As the trivia progressed, it was clear we weren't in any danger of placing, so we were able to get the check paid while we were still in the second picture round.

Back home, I treated the cats with an assortment of tuna, after which I spent some time in the living room stretching and doing some basic exercises. Julie showed me the latest developments on her island in Tomodachi Life, where she's accrued more than $4,000 by never bothering to buy more than she needs at any given moment. She doesn't even really level up her plaza; our approaches are very different. After I reached the point where I was about to start sweating, I came into the office to write this update, and then I'll go to bed.

2025

Sunday: since Julie wanted us to eat lunch before we left for our errands, I ate my salad for lunch. Our walk to the store quickly turned uncomfortable, but we still managed to make stops at Target and PetSmart. After we got back home, we took a quick jaunt to the gym, and eventually I started preparing dinner: curry chicken over rice with roast broccoli. The seasonings came out really well, despite almost running out of half the ingredients, but my approach to prep uses a lot of mixing bowls. We decided to pursue our own interests while eating dinner, and I played a little bit of Blue Prince before the stream of the first part of The Little Match Girl 5: The Hunter's Vow. Once the stream ended, I finally got into FFXIV to try out the new Occult Crescent adventuring area.

2024

Saturday: another work week started. Julie's still in Kentucky, so it was just me and the cats, today. After work, I had the first half of my salad for dinner, and while I had the start of Preach's Endwalker LP on in the background, I spent a bunch of my free time updating my Moondrop Isle map. Ryan had been interested in using it to create a promotional image; he's aiming for a game update on Wednesday to address the bugs we've been finding and received reports about. Afterwards, I did the dishes, and now that I'm posting this update, I should go to bed, especially if I can do so without the cats hassling me for more treats.

Thursday: Call volume still high! (New call logging process, too!) Julie worked from home, because they're still remodeling their cubicles! I think I spent most of my free time just playing more Hearthstone? It's been getting really hot in the apartment.
