Monday: up early enough to essentially conclude the process of designing arcs as they'll apply across the book series as a whole. At this point, I can now isolate each segment that applies only to the first book, arrange those as appropriate, and I will have the outline with which to build my first draft; that process is already halfway completed. I'm very pleased I've reached this point successfully, and while this took longer than I'd wanted, it's still a much better pace than I've been able to maintain for any prior project I can recall embarking upon. I think I can pick up the pace even further, though, which will begin within the next two days.

Had a similarly productive day at work, getting through all of my remaining new groups, all my follow-ups, and all my pending DSB groups. On my breaks, I have been trying to give the Myers-Briggs typing philosophy a chance to win me back, and I used videos on Alexis Kingsley's channel to do that successfully. I remember a discussion of the eight cognitive processes back in high school. (These are the Ni, Ne, Si, Se, Fi, Fe, Ti, and Te polarities.) I'd forgotten how your specific type anticipates which of those processes are valued or unvalued, are conscious or unconscious, are overused or underused, and are a potential source of strength or a probable source of weakness. I worried I might have mistyped myself based on my limited understanding of the role these processes play, but having spent a lot of time today with these videos playing in the background, I recognize the utility and accuracy of identifying myself as falling within the INFP category. Like the enneagram, this approach to the MBTI provides more specific instruction on how to address your potential shortcomings and pursue more constructive growth.

For today's meals, I had the last of the cereal for breakfast, and I made myself a salad for lunch. For dinner, we ate half of the remaining goulash, though we did go through a workout first. We played another five or six songs in Just Dance to get our heart rates up, after which we only had the energy to do the 8 Minute Abs routine on the new DVD. We got cleaned up afterwards.

While we showered, Julie and I resumed our discussion from yesterday about my ability to disregard jealousy. She's skeptical, but our history together constitutes a pretty compelling body of evidence to demonstrate that I'm too eager to err on the side of empathy and understanding to allow myself to be hurt by a behavioral mistake. I would much rather she explore an opportunity when it appears than to wonder about what might have happened if the timing had been different. She tried to argue that this was just a facet of my overall passivity, but I pointed out that if I were that motivated by a desire to maintain the status quo for my own benefit, I wouldn't be as concerned with making sure she gets through life with no regrets. I imagine we'll have more to talk about on this subject after Thursday.

Since this is the first time we weren't even trying to go to Monday night trivia in a long while, we considered how to spend our evening. We ended up eating dinner in the living room while watching the new season of Resident Alien. It's astonishing how much everybody's appearance has changed since the last ; I got to joke about how "Little Max grew up right before our eyes, right, Todd?" Surprised Julie didn't immediately clock it as a BoJack reference, but she got there eventually. After two episodes, I brought our bowls and utensils back to the kitchen and ran the dishwasher, followed by treats for the cats, as well as this update right here.

Sunday: walked up to Petsmart for more treats, and in the afternoon, we went to the gym. I think we finished the casserole leftovers for dinner? We were doing our own thing, and I was planning to get back to the fourth chapter of DELTARUNE, but I ended up having too much success in Blue Prince to quit playing. In a single run, I got the last sanctum key I needed (behind the last door of 8), I passed the 9th schoolroom exam, and I also go the Parlor Puzzle trophy. Feels like I'm closing in on the endgame challenges that people usually wind up quitting over. I'll probably do the same, once I see what they entail...

2024

Saturday: pretty uneventful. Spent a lot of time catching up on stuff at work. Julie picked up lunch from the Mexican place on the corner. I had a decent chicken enchilada. After work, Julie went out with the bocce people for bowling, so for dinner, I just had a bowl of cereal followed by miscellaneous snacking. I did a little power leveling in MoP Remix while finally (almost) finishing the Preach Endwalker stream vods.

2023

Thursday: really enjoying the slower call volume today, as well as the return (after a two week absence) of a Disco Elysium Let's Play I've gotten a little invested in. Today was also the launch day of Failbetter Games's Mask of the Rose, and as soon as I had time, I stayed up super late finishing my first playthrough. I'd later post my initial thoughts over on Select Button, but the gist is that I like it, although I'm still making sense of it. Looking forward to seeing how things change for my second character.

Monday: did a trail hike with the family at Haha Tonka, by the Lake of the Ozarks. We zipped around on the lake a bit, as well. I presume one or more of my parents were with us, but the photos only show Kelly & Joe and Julie & me.

Saturday: admitted to Julie that I hadn't been aware that Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson were related. More importantly, we traded in Julie's newish black Ford Focus for the same car with cruise control, power windows, and less mileage. (We were expecting to do a lot of driving over the next six months.) Nine years and one month later, I'd drive that car to Philadelphia before we sold it as redundant. You turned out to be a pretty good car, Gus.
