Sunday: we had a concert to see in the evening, so we took our morning a little slower, having more of the shrimp fried rice for lunch. I played more Hearthstone, trying to get my warlock deck defensive enough to survive the early turns without compromising its Elekk-centric gameplan. Once it was nearly time to go, I put on one of my new v-neck shirts and we took the subway up to the shuttle-bus pickup spot. Julie carried the convertible blanket, so I held onto our water bottles. The road turned out to be blocked such that the bus would never be able to pick us up at that spot, so after discussing the situation with another pair of concertgoers, the four of us walked a few blocks to the pickup near city hall, and the trip was uneventful.

After reaching The Mann Center, Julie and I had slices of pizza as we marveled at the incredible price of cocktails and watched all the people filing into the venue. It seemed like earth tones were popular, along with strapless or X-shaped tops, high-waisted and straight-legged pants... For some reason I thought 90s fashion was having a comeback, but that was not at all apparent in the crowd we encountered.

Our performers included:

-Talk, whose lead singer was indeed providing a running commentary even as he sang;
-Milky Chance, and I found I recognized a lot more of their work than I expected. Their German accents were unmistakable;
-And finally Young the Giant, whose performance and stage presence were the best, yet Julie could not handle the interstitial videos they played to cover while they changed their setup between songs. She even suggested that her discomfort from these videos reached a level similar to my discomfort from the British version of The Office.

Maybe it's to do with working from home and never getting to see people in contexts other than the grocery store, but I loved watching the various groups around us: the mix of excited and bored kids with all of their hearing protection; the girls playing cards during Milky Chance who started doing magic tricks for one another; the young family whose patriarch gave off vibes extremely reminiscent of a guy we knew back in Wichita. It kept me very entertained... but I still found myself constantly refreshing the Steam discussion forums for Mask of the Rose to see if other people were contributing to the gameplay guide a few players had started assembling.

Once the show had ended (no fakeout-ending followed by audience demand for an encore ritual this time), we rode the shuttle back home, and I settled in for a quiet evening on the computer. Julie had another concern, though: Mim had cornered something in the closet. It turned out to be a cockroach, which did not survive when I pulled the litterbox out of place to see if there was something behind it. So, I'm guessing we've got more diatomaceous earth in our future.

This was the first publication date for my game A Green Rain, which was entered into an interactive fiction competition hosted by metafilter. My focus, diligence, and craftsmanship were not where they needed to be for this game to be worth playing. I tried to play it in 2022 to write and upload a walkthrough for IFDB, and I had to resort to disassembling it since the source code is no longer accessible.
