2024

Monday: still trying to figure out the balance between my trade sanction work and my commission scrub work. The workday itself was just the kind I liked; I took only a small number of calls, I made progress on projects, and my mid-year update with my manager indicated that I'm meeting all my objectives. I might want to consider moving to the Groups Accounting Help Desk, though. We'll see.

I was up early enough this morning that I showered before work, and on my lunchbreak, I went to pick up a sandwich from Newbold Cafe. I accidentally shook up my Dr Pepper enough on the way home that it made a big mess when I opened it, and it was just simpler to change clothes. While I ate, I watched a long video about a conflict in the world of hip-hop, as it's not something I'm in any position to know about, otherwise. Once my shift ended and Julie got home, we decided not to do trivia tonight, since we wouldn't have the usual guy running things. Instead, we went to City Fitness for the first time in months, and after rereading a couple of recent blog updates, I spent the bulk of my time reviewing this website to see what I'd been up to in August and September of 2023. I'd forgotten about a lot of the stuff I'd posted about on here.

After we got home and got cleaned up, we had the leftover meatballs and spaghetti while watching more BoJack Horseman, as we've apparently caught up on Resident Alien. I also played a few games of Hearthstone before turning my attention back to Fallen London. (The second competition of the Coilheart Games has begun, and I'm woefully behind on gathering clues for the newspaper.) Once I finish this update, I'm going back to the office to try to play some World of Warcraft, as I have both The War Within prepatch event currency to earn, as well as a fair bit still to do in the Mists of Pandaria: Remix game mode. I also need to download the latest annotated source code from Ryan's Patreon, plus I have some ideas for an ECTOCOMP interactive fiction entry that I need to write down...

Saturday: we pulled out the Taco Bell/Acme weekend combo about as soon as I could get myself moving. The apartment was due for a cleaning, so I scooped all the litterboxes and vacuumed the basement and bedrooms, while Julie combed all the cat fur out of our living room rug and did the dishes. It was sweaty work with the weather we've had, but Julie closed the windows and turned on the air, which cooled things down. Still, if I could have gotten away with it, I'd have taken three showers today.

Julie made steak with mushrooms, corn on the cob, and potato salad, and it was magnificent. We watched more Futurama, and after we finished eating we started a game of Civilization VI. Nobody was having much luck, though, so we didn't stick with it.

I was able to send off my notes about the game I'd been testing, and after Julie went to bed, the author and I spent some time tracking down a couple of bugs. I also finished the last of the FFXIV videos I'd been watching before I went to bed, myself.
