Thursday: Julie went into work today rather than working from home, and it happened to be my first working Thursday in months, too. Calls weren't too awful, and there were plenty of trade sanctions emails to handle. After work, I didn't wind up going to the gym, in part because it's feeling pretty cold. I had more leftover fried rice for dinner, while Julie finished the soup. I spent most of the evening continuing through The Rise of the Golden Idol, stopping just shy of the final challenge. I like this one a lot, though it's too early to say whether I prefer it to the original game. I forgot to mention, the final online gardening event for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp ended a couple of days ago. Julie and I did our last flower trade last Thursday; today, the final fishing event for this version of the game started, though this event doesn't have any online functionality. Over on Bluesky, Justin Kim noticed that I'd added him and put me on the Interactive Fiction Authors starter pack, which spiked the number of notifications I'm getting. I was hoping to do some actual interactive fiction programming tonight, but I guess that should wait until next week. I want to try to start doing my MMO sessions on Monday nights after trivia, play text adventures Tuesday mornings, chores Tuesday afternoon, and shopping Wednesday mornings. My track record at this kind of plan fills me with so much confidence, you guys. Just the most confidence possible.
Tuesday: hadn't yet allocated my execuctive vacation time from the holiday season last year, so I before the end of my shift today, I put in requests for some Mondays and Wednesdays in December. More excitingly, Showdown in the Badlands came out in Hearthstone. Tons of people are already complaining about Excavate Warlock's ability to bounce The Azerite Snake and steal games with few ways to interact. I've split my time between Reno Demon Hunter to try to disrupt that kind of combo deck, a more aggressive warlock list that skips the bounce component in favor of a Sludge package, and Excavate Plague Death Knight for daily quest completion. The more the playerbase complains about the current metagame, the more I enjoy that metagame. Maybe because it's a convenient cover for my misplays, perhaps?
I joined Julie on a trip to the POPE for "sing-along Quizzo" tonight. We got there early enough to get a good table and order food, though I can't decide if I like their fry sauce. I go back and forth on it. The trivia seemed straightforward enough through the first round (all things 1981) and the second round (listen to the song and write down the next line of lyrics), but the last round (movies that turned out to all be courtroom dramas) killed our momentum. Still pretty fun, so if the expense isn't too bad, I imagine we'll go again.
