Monday: we took an uber to the airport at 3:40 AM. The driver's car had a video screen behind the passenger seat playing something called the "Octopus Command Center," which alternated between quizzes, an exhortation from AAA to make use of their travel advisors so that a painting of a goat doesn't steal your passport, and a music video from Ranky Tanky which is supposed to sell you on the idea of spending Christmas in Charleston.
Long wait in the security line out of Philadelphia, but I guess that's to be expected for holiday travel. Our plane was a 787 800 MAX, so we had only 66% occupancy on our way out. We sat in an exit row by ourselves, but Julie expressed concerns that she'd injured her elbow. I played Vampire Survivors a couple of times until we were in the air. For refreshments, I had the snack mix packet and some dehydrated brownie chips along with an apple juice.
In Denver, we had a four hour layover. The restrooms were decent. We had brucnh around 8:30 which we picked up from an Einstein Bros: I got a pepperoni and cheese ciabatta sandwich along with a coffee-free chocolate shake. We ran into Steve and Shannon on our way to find somewhere to eat; they'd be on the same flight as us into Colorado Springs. After we found a spot to eat and charge our devices, Julie insisted I nap for a little while so I'd be less exhausted once we met up with the rest of the family. Once our layover ended, it was another 15-minute flight before we could pick up our luggage and meet up with Jim.
Since nobody else expressed a preference for lunch, I recommneded we go by Wendy's thanks to how notoriously awful our local Philadelphia franchise is. we brought the food back to Jim's place and caught up with Amy and my parents while we ate. Jim and Amy had to run for a prior appointment for a bit. Dad was preoccupied with the "Pinball Wizards" puzzle he'd brought and was assembling on Jim's coffee table. Despite my earlier nap, I crashed for a while on the sofa, but I did eventually wake up enough to participate in the puzzle-solving with Julie. Once everybody got back, we had a dinner of Caesar salad, lasagna, and pie. Mom got a game of Catchphrase going while we continued working on the puzzle, but once folks got tired of playing, they put National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation on the television. We focused on the puzzle, but we couldn't finish it before retiring to the bedroom.
I'm dismayed to discover that I forgot to bring my C-PAP power cable, so the device is useless for tonight, at least. I'm just typing this update before I go to bed. Earlier in the evening, I'd described my performance at a party as "scintillating," and now Julie won't stop calling things scintillating to mock me. She's being REALLY inappropriate while I'm trying to type and other people are trying to sleep. Let's hope this bhavior improves on day 2.
