Friday: I was up early as usual, though I didn't have breakfast today so that I could focus on my outlining. Once work started, I was able to clear out my last remaining reworks and nearly all of my new groups, so I think I'm well-positioned for Monday. At lunch, Julie accused me of conspiring and dissembling in my pursuit of a pretense under which to pick up lunch for the two of us from the nearest halal cart. Having been accurately called out, I leaned into my new role as a premeditator and grabbed us each a chicken platter. After work, I had a brief call with David, after which Julie and I did our usual Friday workout, though we spent twice as long as usual on the routines. Julie realized afterward that she'd made some mistakes in preparing dinner: she'd left out the onion, the potatoes weren't cut at all, and the "stew" was more of a "soup" thanks to an excess of water. None of this was a real problem, and I enjoyed dinner just fine while watching some videos relevant to my writing. I did a little more outlining until Carl's game started. We're using Wanderer's Guide for character sheets, ogres.app for our vitual tabletop, and a dicebot in Carl's discord channel for our rolls. This marks the first night that we're actually in an adversarial space, if we exclude Richard's character's disregard for stated precautions on the first night of play.
Am I a hypocrite? I've spent years internally scoffing at David's preoccupation with his writing ambitions, but I find that I'm doing the exact same thing: I am beset by notions about future events that are all contingent on the success of a book which hasn't even completed the outlining process. "Envisioning the distant future" is not exactly sticking to the earthworm's gambit, but it's so seductive.
Thursday: so busy at my job that I spent more than an hour after the actual end of my shift continuing to work. Remind me to dread holiday weeks.
When I finally stopped working, Julie went out for her bocce league, so I reheated my pizza and went to the living room for some PS4 gaming. I should have continued playing Tears of the Kingdom, but I am too compelled by Unicorn Overlord. I want to see that game to its conclusion!
Wednesday: the Third Quadrennial Ryan Veeder Exposition for Good Interactive Fiction invites you to visit Moondrop Isle.
As Ryan posted on the intfiction.org forums, Moondrop Isle is a collaborative interactive place-game-story-thing featuring the work of Nils Fagerburg, Joey Jones, Zach Hodgens, Mark Marino, Carl Muckenhoupt, Ryan Veeder, Sarah Willson, Caleb Wilson, and myself. I have been trying to work on this game to some degree or other since February of 2023, and today we judged it sufficient for public review. I hope you enjoy visiting.
While that was going on, I had my last work shift of the week, which was another day full of phone calls. The cats were more demanding than usual since Julie is away, and I finished the last of the fried rice Julie had made (having finished the scalloped potatoes last night). I gathered up the trash and litter since it's a late garbage day, and I'm running the bedding through the washer and dryer after the scuffle last night. I'm still too frazzled from the last 48 hours to do too much else, but I was able to Julie when she'd called after her coworkers enabled her to have a little too much to drink. Finally turned the air down to actually cool the apartment; gonna crash now so I can get my shopping done in the morning and maybe play some Final Fantasy XIV before I miss out on all the fun events they've added before the Dawntrail launch.
Monday: it's Memorial Day, which means a lot of businesses are closed, but I was still on the phones. Thankfully, it was a slow day with plenty of breaks between calls. I tried to enjoy it while I could. Salad for dinner, followed by a whole bunch of Hearthstone's pointless Battlegrounds mode.

Friday: since Scott hosted a cookout, we went over to their house on Chalet and had dinner with them. Chuck was there, and possibly others? I had to work until 8 today, but it was fine.

07:25 So I says to Mabel I says.... we'll finish this later.
12:10 I have lost count how many times I have had to replace my rear right blinker bulb.
17:38 Off to Final Friday, the most cultural thing Wichita has to offer. And it's still 90 degrees here. This will be a fun night.
20:49 My definition of what art is clearly differs from that of every artist in Wichita.

I made my first livejournal post today, in which I promised to keep quizzes and memes to a minimum. I did not honor that promise.
