2026

Sunday: my focus and attention continue to wander, which means it's probably for the best that I finally double-checked my appointment scheduling request and found the reply I'd missed so that I could confirm my upcoming telehealth appointment. I should prepare symptom notes in advance.

Got out of bed a little after 9 AM this morning, but I couldn't get much writing done. Instead, I switched over to an old twitter archive and copied various tweets from 2009 to 2014 into this website. Julie spent the morning preparing her lunch meals for the upcoming week, after which we put on our walking shoes for a trip up to Washington. The humidity was bad enough that Julie preferred a direct route. We checked PetSmart and Target for a mat to cover up some exposed carpet nails in the office doorway, after which we stopped into Giant. While they didn't have the spices that Julie was looking for, we were able to pick up sunflower kernels and the parmesan I keep forgetting. After our walk, we couldn't muster the energy to work out, so we just got cleaned up instead.

For lunch, I had one of my salads, and I can already tell I'm not going to have enough for every workday. I might pick up sushi again when it's time to get more bananas. I tented with John for a couple of hours in the afternoon, during which time I played enough Discard Warlock to reach rank 2 on the wild ladder. Julie made chicken enchilada pasta for dinner, which she said was something Courtney or Jess had introduced us to on one of our game nights, but I can't remember this version of the meal; it's too similar to the spinach pasta that we started having instead. It was tasty enough, though. We watched another pair of Poirot mysteries while we ate: "The Tragedy at Marsdon Manor" (in which the victim's wife is the artist who sees ghosts) and "The Double Clue" (in which Poirot is quite taken with the Russian countess). I had confused elements of the latter mystery with "Murder on the Orient Express," which I'm hoping we'll be able to rewatch soon.

After dinner, I treated the cats and put away all the clothes I'd arrayed on the bed in the office. The top plastic drawer in the closet is now filled with clothes I don't intend to wear, but which I'm not yet ready to discard or donate. Tomorrow, I need to bring my suit jacket to the dry cleaner to have it cleaned and repaired. Might play just a little bit of Vampire Survivors before bed.

2025

Saturday: spent the first hour or two awake just lying in bed and playing Pocket Camp. What finally got me moving was the need to treat the cats before cleaning myself up. We took the subway up to the Frankford-Market blue line, which we then took right back to the east side of town, where the showcase had been last Friday. Denise and Larry had conscripted us into the family for a luncheon at Uncle Joe's house, which turned out to be an apartment a couple blocks north on 4th street. While we managed to spend most of the walk in the shade, the summer heat was still enough that we were starting to sweat as we arrived. It was a nice party with some great food, including pretzel sandwiches, an amazing ham-and-cheese assembly, homemade mac-and-cheese, bruschetta, various dips and spreads, sloppy joes with pizza-infused filling, Julie's brownies... even the disponsable utensils were made of wood. We discussed the cruise next year, Denise's intervention in her brother-in-law's medical emergency, various photos from Larry's childhood, and the ways Philadelphia has changed over the decades. I had a cider I enjoyed and another which I could take or leave.

When 5 PM arrived, we excused ourselves so that we could get home and prepare for our trip, tomorrow. Julie got notes for the catsitters prepared, and I cleaned up the litterboxes. She made dinner of eggs and hash, which I ate while watching a Deltarune video and cleaned out my Hearthstone quests. Now that it's after 11, I should finish packing before I clean up the water fountain, but I thought I'd post this update first.

2024

Friday: login queues were pretty long, but I was able to get into the Dawntrail pre-release launch by around 5:30 AM or so. I unlocked viper and played around with it for a bit; I also started the MSQ and elected to visit Urqopacha first. Unfortunately, all the energy I'd put into prepping for the release (and my inability to sleep at practically any point in the preceding 10 hours) meant that drowsiness overtook me, and I soon crashed in the office bed. Then I got up for an hour or so, and there was practically no login queue, so I played for another hour before I again became fatigued. I had a bowl of cereal for brunch and the first half of my pizza for dinner. The day vanished in a haze of semi-consciousness.

2023

Wednesday: calls were marginally better, but work's still pretty miserable. At Julie's request, I did set up the Wii U again so she can get her Dr. Mario fix. I was planning to get to bed earlier, but I got distracted by videos of Hearthstone's singleplayer modes like Dungeon Run and The Dalaran Heist, so I wound up staying up way too late.
