Monday: my work shift was upended by an unexpected absence, which meant I needed to cover chat support while also getting trained on the trade sanction project. (This was basically the end of my commission scrub assistance, though that would become one of my primary responsibilities again, once I accepted my promotion the following year.) After work, we went to Quizzo as usual, but the place was packed. We ended up sitting at the table by the garage door, but that section was so hot and had so little airflow, we should have just sat outside. It would have been cooler. I enjoyed the salad and the pizza (and using our gift card to pay), but we scored around 7 points most rounds and didn't place. Once we were home, I slept a few hours in the office before returning to the bedroom for the rest of the night.

2023

Saturday: it kills me how much better the World of Warcraft UI and play experience is than Final Fantasy XIV, especially with the new Fractures in Time update for Dragonflight. If I could play FFXIV without combat lag and with WoW's classes and action bars, I'd be in heaven.

All of which is to say I stayed up too late playing MMOs, so our Saturday got a late start. We finished the frittata for brunch before going to Acme, and we felt so hot just driving that any plans to walk somewhere today went out the window. We played Her Story on Julie's laptop before dinner (finishing the taco soup), and after dinner I hooked the laptop up to the TV and she played through the first couple hours of Disco Elysium. Tomorrow, I'll be making coconut curry chicken with rice and asparagus for dinner, but I think we do want to try having lunch out somewhere, so I shouldn't stay up as late tonight.

Steam:
Her Story - Detective Sergeant
Her Story - The Reflection
Her Story - Lucky Dip
Her Story - A Traditional Ballad
Her Story - Expressing My Individuality
Her Story - It's a happy ending.
Her Story - Have you ever eaten fennel?
Her Story - Spilt Coffee

Friday: seems like I must have gotten a new wallet as a gift recently? My old wallet was the one with the diagonal pattern of holes in the front. Today, I retired that wallet and moved all the cards to the wallet with the outer pocket in which I keep my SEPTA card. Anyway, today was the fifth day of Reservations training at my new job.

Saturday: went with Julie and the boys to Oak & Pie. Maybe it was just the hunger talking, but I really enjoyed the appetizers.

Julie's LiveJournal entry for today seems like a little bit of revisionist history:

"Branson was fun, even if we never actually made it into the city. We arrived late Friday, spent all day Saturday at Silver Dollar City and left late morning to drive back here. 5 hours driving in a car might be my limit. I was getting antsy and cramped. There were some good ride at SDC. I like the log plume and the rafting one. And the coasters were pretty good. Nothing compared to Cedar Point, but what really can compare to Cedar Point?

"We drove through some desolate Kansas countryside. I love it other there, it's gorgeous. I'm also always amused by the anti-abortion billboards people put up on their property along the highway. I wonder if anyone has actually changed their opinions from them - I know I haven't. "Oh, yeah, I used to get like five abortions a year but then I read on the side of 400 that abortion stops a beating heart and that it's a child, NOT A CHOICE! and it totally changed my mind." I know they can do what they want with their property and free speech and whatever but a few billboards whizzing by me at 70 mph isn't going to changed my views on abortion or religion.

"Jason is trying his hardest to come up with stupid nicknames for me and "honey pumpkin" might be the worst. MY favorite is "banana factory." Where the hell did that come from? It makes me giggle. The other day the song "Breathe" was playing and when it got to the part where she says that "life's like an hourglass glued to the table" Jason responds with "Hard to eat around?""

She may have presented the trip like that, but the truth was that she found aspects of the trip infuriating. We were there with Carl and Craig, and at first, I didn't do enough to ensure that she felt involved in our activities. Between this and the disastrous trip to Colorado for skiing several months later, it's astonishing she was willing to keep travelling with me in the years to come.
